Eastern Area Agency on Aging has been serving seniors and their families in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Washington counties since 1973.  With a specially trained and dedicated staff, we are able to provide seniors with a variety of options, opportunities, resources and referrals.

When an older person has a problem, large or small, one phone call to us is usually all it takes for the help to begin. And the majority of our services are free of charge.

EAAA has many programs that are easily accessed by seniors, including:

  • Community Services: These Consultants provide valuable information and help seniors with benefits, referrals and paperwork. They meet with clients in our office in Bangor or in the client’s home.
  • Nutrition: Meals for ME operates about 50 senior community dining rooms that provide well-balanced and delicious noontime meals to seniors. Home delivered hot meals are available for frail, elderly, homebound persons who are unable to cook for themselves.
  • Medicare Prescription Drug and Health Insurance Assistance: Community Services Consultants have been able to save hundreds of seniors thousands of dollars a year by enrolling them in programs with benefits, such as the low cost drug card, for which they are eligible and yet knew nothing about
  • Caregiving: Family Caregiver Resource Specialists help family members and spouses who provide assistance to an older person.
  • Legal Services for the Elderly: Lawyers and paralegals provide legal advice and assistance to seniors, either in our office or in the client’s home.
  • DASH Network: One call is all it takes to get that important referral. The DASH Network is designed to make it easier for seniors and people with physical / cognitive / behavioral disabilities to access services. The DASH Network. Help is a phone call away.

EAAA is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization managed by a professional staff and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, who are made up of representatives from our four county service area.  We also have a volunteer advisory council to help us identify the needs of seniors and find ways to meet those needs.

Our programs succeed thanks in large part to our 800 plus volunteers.

EAAA is there when you, your family or your neighbors need services.  Whether you are a senior yourself, or a caregiver of an older person, EAAA is ready to help.

Programs funded in part by the State of Maine Department of Health & Human Services and the agency is a part of a nationwide network of agencies on aging established by the federal government’s Older Americans Act.  Eastern Area Agency on Aging is a United Way Partnership Agency.
