The Elizabeth West Transportation program of Eastern Area Agency on Aging was made possible through a generous endowment from Elizabeth West. Thanks to the endowment, EAAA was able to purchase a handicap accessible passenger van and add transportation to their wide array of services.

The purpose of the program is to provide transportation for individuals to and from medical appointments. This service is available to individuals 50 years or older and not eligible for other transportation services offered, such as Medicare and Medicaid.

The cost of a ride using the Elizabeth West Van is $20.00 per local ride (within 25 miles of Bangor). The ride cost outside of Bangor will be determined on a case-by-case basis and discussed with the rider prior to the delivery. All clients using this service are required to pay a cost share of the total cost of the ride. Cost shares are determined through use of a sliding fee scale based on income and are used to help defray the cost of maintenance and repairs for the van.

This program is partially supported by funds from Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS).  Click here to visit emh.org.
