Family Caregiver Program

A caregiver is a family member, friend or neighbor who is an informal provider of care. As a person providing care for an older adult or a person with dementia you are faced with an enormous amount of responsibility and work. Often there are no others there to help you, and you have little time to take care of your own needs. Eastern Area Agency on Aging offers the following family caregiver support programs:

Information and Assistance offers extensive resources and information on services available to the caregiver and person they are caring for.

Options Counseling is an interactive decision-support process where individuals and/or their caregivers are educated and supported to make informed long-term support choices related to the individual’s preferences, strengths, needed services, values, and circumstances.

SAVVY Caregiver is a 6 week session that provides training for families and friends caring for someone with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Caregiver Respite Program supports family caregivers by helping them pay for someone else to provide care for the person with dementia.

Caregiver Support Groups bring caregivers together through monthly meetings to share their experience, gain skills, build confidence, offer help and support, and learn of resources available.
